The Kindergartners are in the middle of creating fairy tale castles using line and shape.
By combining geometric and organic shapes and different types of lines, Kinders created their very own castles. We looked at castles from around the world, pointed out all the different shapes we see, and discussed how artists use line and shape to create texture.
We began by drawing the basic shapes of their castle using pencil, starting with a simple line across the bottom of the paper. Then, we drew two long lines up each side. To turn these lines into towers, we drew a parallel line just inside each one and a short line across the top to close it off, basically forming two rectangles.
Next, the Kindergartners designed and applied embellishments such as flags, the facade, additional towers, doorways, windows, turrets, etc. using line and shape. Students then traced their pencil drawings with oil pastel.
This week, we will put the finishing touches on our drawings with oil pastel and adding color using watercolor paints. The drawings are turning out great! Can't wait to see the finished product!
