6th Grade (3rd Rotation) is wrapping up Printmaking today. They created printing plates out of cardboard, tagboard, and yarn. Their guidelines were that they had to use one geometric shape over and over but they could add a second accent shape if so desired. Some students chose to stick to abstract designs and some used the geometric shapes to create a bigger more realistic design.
Last week, students learned about Photography and working with the iPads to create artistic images verses snapshots. They created some awesome pieces!
We are in week 2 of the 2nd rotation of 6th grade Specials. With Halloween right around the corner I thought we would start this rotation with our Clay Monsters.
They are currently in the kiln ( sorry for no pictures, my hands get pretty slimy during ceramics lessons and I didn't get a chance to snap some pics!). While we are waiting to glaze the monsters, we are working on a repeated paper Relief sculpture. We used basic computer paper and the students decided what 3D form they were going to create over and over and over. This repeated form would then be arranged strategically on large black paper to show rhythm and design using the white paper shapes. We are getting closer to the end of the first rotation of 6th grade specials. Sadly, this great group of kids will move on to a new special class in just 2 weeks. We still have 2 more projects to squeeze in before then.
This rotation's students started their clay projects today. They will be turning their large pinch pots into monsters throughout the week. Stay tuned for more details! Welcome back to a new year and a new art website. We are very excited to update you weekly about what is going on in the 6th grade art room!
We are going to update you not only when projects are finished, but we are going to give you the inside scoop on what steps the students take to get to their final products. REMINDER: make sure you check your email for Artsonia emails. There are some of you that still haven't approved Artsonia to post your child's artwork. (Check your SPAM folders or TRASH) Remember it is anonymous, only first names and last initials are posted. Having your child's art posted allows you and other friends and family to view and comment on their fabulous art! |
