2nd graders learned about the difference between a "regular" sculpture and a relief sculpture this week. A relief sculpture is one that is only intended to be viewed from one side or angle, unlike a piece of ceramics or pottery that is usually viewed from all sides.
We also learned about the term monochromatic also! Monochromatic means "one color". So a monochromatic color scheme for example is light blue, lighter blue, blue, dark blue, etc.
After using different types of lines and some geometric shapes to create their sketch for their painting, the students chose their color to work with and mixed and painted their projects in a monochromatic way. Next week we will finish painting and prepare them to make the sculpture.
